To elaborate on my extraction experiences in Dark and Darker

My skilled friend often expresses frustration with me for not being well-versed in distinguishing between “favorable” and “unfavorable” rooms in the game. It appears that the significance of map knowledge in achieving success is underestimated. Being familiar with what each room holds can significantly reduce variables, leaving interactions with other players as the primary uncertainty.

Indeed, as a newcomer, avoiding encounters with other players can prove to be quite challenging.

I’ve been watching videos where players claim, “I go in with minimal Equipment/Dark and Darker Gold and still manage to extract successfully.” However, it becomes evident that these players possess extensive knowledge of the maps, allowing them to navigate efficiently, escape from adversaries, and locate prime loot spots.

For someone new to the game, the initial experience can be rather daunting, especially considering that solo queue matches pit them against well-equipped players.

As I experiment with different characters, I’m struck by the difficulty. The learning curve feels steeper than my introduction to Tarkov, mainly due to the constraints imposed by the circle’s progression and the absence of a scav mode equivalent.

I find myself yearning for a mode tailored to newcomers, perhaps one where entry requires starting gear but with reduced loot rates. This would provide a safer environment for learning, without the risk of encountering heavily equipped opponents. I recently fell victim to a player clad in full blues, armed with an abundance of potions, during a solo goblins encounter.

To elaborate on my extraction experiences:

  • 2 successful extractions out of 12 attempts with the cleric (resulting in 1 kill).
  • 3 successful extractions out of 11 attempts with the wizard (with an impressive 4 kills).
  • No successful extractions out of 8 attempts with the ranger (1 kill, but no extraction).
  • 1 successful extraction out of 5 attempts with the warlock.
  • 1 successful extraction out of 6 attempts with the rogue.

This progression aligns with the order in which I initially engaged with the game. I started somewhat blindly and only realized later that jars primarily yielded vendor trash. Even in the cases of the 2 successful cleric extractions, she essentially had negligible resources.

While I’m not typically drawn to basic fighter or barbarian roles in fantasy games, it’s possible that opting for such a straightforward approach might aid in my learning process. It could be beneficial to slightly increase the drop rate of basic weapons, offering new players a higher chance of securing a serviceable upgrade after defeating a few foes. Given that these weapons typically fetch meager prices, this adjustment could be beneficial, providing newcomers with a reasonable expectation of acquiring a decent grey or white weapon after dispatching 3-4 enemies.
